Dr Alicia Miller of El Con Health and Wellness shares her insight into Biostimulators for younger looking skin
In aesthetic medicine, the skin will show signs of aging due to loss of collagen and volume. Even though it’s a natural process, people want to look refreshed and match how they feel on the inside. This is where Biostimulators will help. Biostimulators are injectable treatments that stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin to improve skin texture, firmness, and volume over time. The difference between Biostimulators and Fillers, is fillers will give immediate volume, but does not stimulate new collagen or elastin. Fillers have there place and are necessary at times. Biostimulators will work gradually byencouraging the skin to regenerate itself, leading to a more natural and subtle rejuvenation.
There are 3 main types of Biostimulators offered at El Con Health and Wellness: Poly-L-Lactic acid (Sculptra), Calcium Hydroxylapatite (Radiesse), andpolydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN) derived from Salmon DNA (PromoItalia line). Biostimulators may require between 2-3 sessions to achieve desired look. They will last up to 2-3 years, depending on your metabolism. PDRN may be injected or micro needled into the skin. PDRN with micro needling is recommended to receive a treatment every 3 weeks for approximately 5 sessions.
